It was early morning, returning from the boulangerie in Perros-Guirec. I was listening to Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me with Not My Job guest Alan Page.
The connection here is slim — we were staying on the Côte de granit rose during the recent Toussaint vacation. There’s a Viking/Gaelic/Breton thing.
One of the questions for Justice Page concerned the discovery of runes carved in stone. Of particular note was an item carved quite high on a wall. What did it say?
“Tholfir Kolbeinsson carved these runes high up.” (link)
It reminded me of this, also inscribed up high:
We are might Foonheads,
mighty Foonheads all.
We are mighty Foonheads,
we’re also mighty tall.
Stan “Too Tall” Taylor wrote this masterwork on the ceiling of a cabin, as part of a maelstrom of graffiti at our high school band camp in August of 1977. Those of us responsible were asked to return to paint the interior of the cabin, such that no graffiti remained. We painted it all, save that one.
(Hat tip to Steve Taylor — no relation to “Too Tall” — for the ride in his…’64 Chevy Impala was it? It was the color of a banana and had enough space remaining under the hood with it’s straight-six to stand inside the engine compartment.)
Onto the photos…
